For example, if someone was sitting opposite me I would try to lip-read them or they might sign slowly so that I could understand the signs.
If you are not deaf then it can be very hard and sometimes impossible to know how a deaf person is feeling, because we cannot feel what they feel. Imagine this for every day of your life, not being able to hear anything; that’s how it is like to be deaf.
People who are deaf usually don’t blame themselves for it because it can happen very suddenly or gradually over time through aging. You might start hearing some high pitch sounds or have trouble listening at a distance.
People with disabilities like these are treated very differently across countries. Some people might be able to go through life never having anyone treat them poorly because of their hearing impairment; then others might have every door slammed in their face, not be given jobs, and sometimes even beaten. They can’t help it if they were born like that so why is it okay to treat them like that?
Sometimes it’s hard for deaf people to get jobs because they cannot hear their boss and cannot work well with other people. It is also harder for them to find a job when they are not guaranteed the same pay as everyone else.
People who are deaf can live full lives, have relationships, be educated, get good jobs, and have families. They don’t only communicate with people who are deaf, but they can use speech reading/watching to make connections with hearing people too.

There is not much of a difference between deaf people and hearing people except for one thing, they cannot hear. -try to learn sign language and/or lipreading if it is possible for you
-be patient with them and realize they might make mistakes just like you
-try to learn how they communicate instead of assuming because it might be different from what you are used to
